A NEW WELCOME – MK&G Hamburg opens new foyer

Hamburg, 12 April 2023 – After four and a half months of renovation work, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) can now welcome visitors with a new foyer. The reception area was redesigned by the Hamburg firm Studio Besau-Marguerre and the remodeling work was carried out in collaboration with SWP-Architekten. The SEDIMENT side table in Giallo Reale, designed by Studio Besau-Marguerre for favius, was used for the redesign.

Hands on – Christian Haas

Solo debut of designer Christian Haas in New York, February 2023. Entitled HANDS ON 15 objects by the German designer were shown at 180 the Store in the TriBeCa district – including the PORTAO stool and the FONTE table lamp he designed for favius. An exhibition that shows the spectrum of Christian Haas and his strength – the harmony between elegance and simplicity, form and function, modernity and timelessness.

The genesis of the table light FLAKES by Hanne Willmann

The designer Hanne Willmann was inspired in her design of the table light FLAKES by a visit to the oldest glass manufactory in the Bavarian Forest. Captivated by the art of glassblowing and the different processing methods she developed the table light FLAKES form the traditional technique of scattering individual grains of coloured glass onto transparent glass. She brings this technique into a straightforward form, playing with transparency and opacity to create a poetic design.

New: Stool PORTAO by Christian Haas

PORTAO by Christian Haas is a stool with a distinct sculptural appearance. Its nuanced design centers on the shape, making the stool an object with a strong character. The monolithic appearance of the piece is underlined by the use of solid oak processed to a high standard. The tapered stool legs as well as the seat are significantly rounded on the front sides, giving a pleasant feeling of softness and offering comfortable seating. PORTAO convinces with its presence in a room, it can also be used as a side table and is available in oiled or black stained oak.

The stool PORTAO is available in stores from may 2021.

New: Floor light FUNGI by Hanne Willmann

With the floor light FUNGI, designer Hanne Willmann has created an impressive lighting object. In her design, she combines the beauty of hand-blown glass with handmade ceramics and stages them in new and striking forms. The imposing lampshade attests to the extraordinary skill of the glassmaker while its steel grey transparency reveals the refined ceramic base. The designer has given this intricately designed luminaire base an unmistakable, wave-like appearance. The dimmable light source is embedded in it and thus provides for individual lighting moods. The elegant floor light FUNGI reflects the unique style of Hanne Willmann and is available in three ceramic colours: warm beige, orange red and black.

The floor light FUNGI is available in stores from may 2021.

Review – favius at imm cologne 2020

At the imm cologne 2020 favius presented two striking novelties: A hand-blown table light FLAKES by Hanne Willmann as well as a side and coffee table SEDIMENT by Studio Besau-Marguerre. Both novelties underline the design brand’s philosophy: the dedication to traditional craftsmanship as well as a design language, which moves between art and architecture.

Also, the open and architectural exhibition design by Studio Besau-Marguerre takes up favius’ philosophy. The interdisciplinary design office structures the favius stand with its four open sides with the use of ceiling high curtains that are printed on both sides with spatial motifs into the areas new releases, living, sales and shop presentation. The two colours cognac and dark green, which are used on the curtains and pedestals, create two elegant colour worlds. These help to transport a sophisticated atmosphere and lend the stand an abstract spatial structure. A clear focus is put on the novelties which are staged on pedestals as a presentation area. The curtains as well as the use of pedestals in different heights create intriguing perspectives and offer an exciting stage for the strong favius collection.

20 years Linzer Kunstsalon and Designsalon 2019

Under the title “Europe’s Designing Women” Designsalon 2019 will show works by 28 independent women designers from all 28 EU member countries representing the powerful creative energy of women in Europe.

Curator Katrin Steindl has dedicated Designsalon 2019 to Europe’s successful designing women. Each of the 28 EU member countries is represented by the work of one independently producing designer. For Germany, the exhibition shows the side table GRAVITY TABLE by Hanne Willmann. The exhibition was designed and implemented by Teresa Galen and Christine Hechinger. In a sensitive, yet powerful, presentation a round table serves as a platform for equality on which the individual exhibits stand on an equal footing. The Designsalon in the Wappensaal at Landesgalerien Linz will be opened on 27 September at 7 pm at the same time as the Kunstsalon [Art Salon]. The exhibition will run until 27 October.

The powerful energy of female designers is ubiquitous. Products, brands and companies as well as cities and realities are decisively shaped by the creative power of women in Europe. The works they produce are just as strong and powerful as those of their male colleagues. Yet by no means all the products created by women are designed for women as powerful, creative businesswomen design and produce for the world market. They operate as businesswomen, influential creative forces and bosses of design studios in a sector still dominated by men. “The Designsalon concentrates female creative power on a stage, equal and analogous to the stars on the EU flag”, says curator Katrin Steindl, emphasising that the design, development and execution of this year’s Designsalon all grew in close and equal teamwork together with Teresa Galen and Christine Hechinger.

Designsalon 2019 invites you to take a conscious look at female creative potential in Europe and to realise the extent of the obvious and successful creativity of female designers.
